Requirements
Sun tracking solar protection comprising of perforated and bent sheet metal, passive energy and light managing device also acting as an eye-catcher on the east façade. The DGNB Platinum award-winning building, with the highest score in the Educational Buildings category, shows highest demands on comfort, energy efficiency and environmental protection, as shown in the criteria catalog of the DGNB (German Sustainable Building Council).
System
Ten rows of operable louvres, each 600mm deep and slightly curved decorate the eastern façade and protect it from intense morning solar radiation. The convex shape improves the inherent stiffness. The system also acts as a proven safety barrier. The final perforation pattern was achieved through several calculations. This results in effective sun protection and well-balanced daylight supply even in the event of closed louvres.
